BEING PART OF IT...
If you are a sci-fi nut like I am, you are always thinking forward. I always open the book up and glance at the first few pages in search of the environment. Is it off-world? High-tech? Apocalyptic? War?
Think of Blade Runner.
It's San Francisco, gloomy, rainy all the time, and the dichotomy of futuristic buildings to block out the outside world and the street world of poverty-stricken job-shop workers of robotic parts. Still rainy.
Jerking myself into BBC World News and seeing the present is scary. We are literally at the door of the future.
Apple's new technology is about to boost us into that world, while civilizations are falling into poverty all around us and government leaders are micro-inches from pressing the launch buttons on nukes.
Meanwhile, I'm writing new software for pulling information from all over the world into a single dot of a GUI interface and wondering how I am contributing to mass chaos.
