HUMAN EXPANSION IN THE UNIVERSE IS IMPORTANT
Our sun, commonly known as Sol, is a large fusion reactor that is slowly storing its spent fuel (its own waste, if you will). Eventually, that built up storage will cause it to self destruct in about 6 billion years or so.
In the meantime, Sol is getting hotter. That causes the Earth to heat up more, with the results of naturally more Carbon Dioxide to form in the atmosphere of Earth. Of course, humans are contributing to it as well as all other animal life in general.
It has been estimated that the usable normal life supporting conditions will last only about a million years on the Earth.
I know that sounds like a lot of years, but in astronomical time, it can go pretty fast, especially considering we are in a particularly dangerous area of the galaxy in terms of numerous asteroids and and other loose objects in natural space, due to the relative newness of our region.
Basically, the faster we get off this rock, the better. It will ensure the proliferation of our life forms.
